Sponsorship Approval: Standard, Overseas & Accredited

Three sponsorship pathways for Australian employers to hire skilled overseas workers — with priority processing for accredited sponsors.

MARA-registeredLicensed expert teamBilingual support

We help Australian employers obtain business sponsorship approval to hire skilled overseas workers. Three sponsorship pathways accommodate different organisational profiles: Standard Business Sponsorship for established Australian businesses, Overseas Business Sponsorship for foreign entities setting up Australian operations, and Accredited Sponsorship for low-risk organisations seeking expedited processing.

Once approved, sponsorships remain valid for 5 years, enabling organisations to nominate multiple expatriate workers across visa subclasses including 482 SID, 494 SESR and others. The approval process evaluates financial stability, employment practices and compliance history.

Accredited status offers material advantages — priority processing, reduced supporting documentation and streamlined labour market testing. Organisations must meet specific eligibility criteria based on employee demographics, nomination volume and investment level.

2

Step 2: Gather Supporting Documentation

Compile evidence of lawful business operation, financial records, employment practices and organisational structure.

3

Step 3: Lodge Application

Submit sponsorship application to Home Affairs. Accredited applications often qualify for reduced documentation.

4

Step 4: Sponsorship Approval

Receive 5-year sponsorship approval. Accredited: 5–10 working days. Standard: 44–76 days average.

5

Step 5: Nominate Workers

Once approved, nominate eligible overseas workers for available visa subclasses (482 SID, 494 SESR etc.) during the 5-year validity period.

Costs & Processing Time

Processing Time

Accredited sponsors: average 5–10 working days for decision-ready nominations. Standard sponsors: 44–76 days. Times indicative.

Accreditation is Worth Pursuing

Accredited status waives police clearance via good character declaration and eliminates the need to provide employment contracts or market salary evidence at each nomination — a major operational win for high-volume sponsors.

Five-Year Validity

All sponsorship approvals are valid for 5 years — sponsor multiple workers across eligible visa subclasses without reapplying.

Compliance is Essential

Approved sponsors must maintain strict compliance with obligations: record-keeping, reporting significant events, non-discriminatory practices. Breaches can result in cancellation and bans.
