Working Holiday visas allow young people from approved countries to holiday and work in Australia for up to 12 months. There are two subclasses: the Subclass 417 Working Holiday visa and the Subclass 462 Work and Holiday visa, each covering different passport countries.
Visa holders can work for up to 6 months with the same employer (with some exceptions) and study for up to 4 months. You must be outside Australia when you apply and when the visa is granted.
If you complete a minimum of 88 days of specified work in regional Australia (farming, fishing, mining, construction), you may be eligible for second and third working holiday visas, extending your stay up to 3 years total.

Subclass 417 Working Holiday
- Age limit: under 31 (up to 35 for Irish, French, Canadian)
- 12-month visa with work and holiday rights
- Second visa available with 88 days regional work
- Third visa available with additional 6 months regional work
Subclass 462 Work and Holiday
- Age limit: under 31
- 12-month visa with work and holiday rights
- Second and third visa extensions available
- Government support letter may be required
