The Subclass 143 Contributory Parent visa is a permanent pathway to bring parents to Australia. Its defining feature is the high second visa application charge (VAC) of about A$43,600 per person, paid to Home Affairs and non-refundable in any circumstance. This “contribution” is what makes the 143 queue far shorter than the non-contributory 103 — currently about 12–15 years (check the latest official figures).

A separate Assurance of Support (AoS) bond also applies: about A$14,000 for a couple, lodged with Services Australia and refunded after 10 years (less any relevant government payments drawn during that period). Note the VAC and the AoS are two different sums — one is non-refundable, the other is refundable.

The visa grants permanent residence on approval, with access to Medicare and other benefits. It suits families who want to reunite sooner and can fund the higher contribution.
